Matthew Perry has sadly died at the age of just 54 ‘after drowning in his jacuzzi at home’.

Tributes for the beloved Friends star have been pouring in while his family have convened in LA.

Perry rose to fame for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit 90s sitcom Friends, which ran for 10 seasons.

Law enforcement sources revealed the actor was found on Saturday at a home in Los Angeles after first responders were called to the scene for a cardiac arrest.

Matthew’s love life had been impacted his all-consuming addiction to alcohol and opioids, which affected his ability to find love and settle down, before he tragically passed away on Saturday.

Over the years, the Friends star struggled with a years-long addiction to alcohol and opioids, subsequently hurting many of his romantic relationships.

This time last year, the 17 Again star — who had been spotted on a Malibu lunch date with a mystery brunette just last month — revealed he had been sober for an unspecified amount of time and admitted he was finally looking for a supportive partner to build a life with.

He had never been married but had proposed to literary agent Molly Hurwitz, his last public relationship, in 2020 after two years of dating.

However, the pair called it quits six months later since he had been in ‘a really dark place’, which affected their connection.

‘You can only held someone so much,’ a close friend of Hurwitz, who was 22 years his junior, told In Touch around the time of their split. ‘He is in a really dark place and pals fear he may have relapsed.

At the height of his career, he had been romantically linked with many glamorous stars in Hollywood.

He had also attributed much of his short-lived romances to being ‘burned’ by women who were only after his money.

He opened up about his past relationships, which were affected by his addiction, in his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing — which was released in November 2022.

He explained that due to his addiction, he only had short-term relationships and was unable to settle down with anyone for too long.

In his book, he touched on dating Julia Roberts for about a year from 1995 to 1996 and how he sabotaged their relationship by ‘dumping’ her before she could leave him.

He wrote that he felt like he could ‘never be enough’ for her.

‘Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me,’ he wrote in his book. ‘I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me.’

He had short-lived romances with stars including Scream actress Neve Campbell, Cherry alumna Heather Graham, and Baywatch star Yasmine Bleeth.

He also had a controversial two-year relationship with fashion student Rachel Dunn, who was 14 years his junior.

His longest relationship was with Mean Girls’ star Lizzy Caplan — which lasted for six years from 2006 to 2012.

After their split, he stayed out of the limelight and was reportedly celibate for nearly half a decade.

On Sunday Matthew’s cause of death has been revealed, after his worldwide fanbase was left in shock by news of his passing.

Law enforcement sources revealed the actor was found on Saturday at a home in Los Angeles after first responders were called to the scene for a cardiac arrest.

Sources claim he was found in a jacuzzi at the home but no drugs were found at the scene and there was no indication of foul play.

The Los Angeles Times reported that authorities responded to his home around 4pm where he was discovered unresponsive.

A source told the outlet that there was so sign of foul play, and that robbery-homicide detectives are investigating his death.

In his last post to his Instagram, shared earlier this week, the star shared images of him in his pool, saying: ‘Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.’

Perry has been candid publicly about his problems with drugs and alcohol, having first went to rehab in 1997 for what was said to a pain medication addiction after a jet skiing accident.

Following this initial stint, he then went to rehab again in 2001 and 2011. He told an interviewer in 2016 that he doesn’t remember filming three seasons of Friends.

A longtime friend of Perry’s – who was in recovery with him – told DailyMail.com: ‘Everyone is in a total state of shock. People are crying on the phone and struggling to accept this news.

‘It’s no secret that he struggled with drugs and alcohol for years but the last time I spoke to him, which was within the last few weeks, he seemed to be in a good place.

‘He was upbeat and sounded sober and positive.

‘He’d been to rehab 17 times and nearly died from opioid abuse but he was someone who was sincere about taking his life, and his sobriety, one day at a time.

‘It’s such tragic news. Everyone is praying he didn’t relapse. Matt was a genuinely lovely guy. He was always the first to welcome newcomers to the group and would always volunteer to help and be of service.

‘We are all struggling to come to terms with this terrible news.’
