Mike Tyson is one of the most controversial athletes of all time. The heavyweight boxing champion’s intimidating demeanor and explosive nature in the ring have caused trouble for his opponents. Outside of his career, Tyson has been involved in numerous controversies, ranging from assault allegations to serving time in prison. He has seen it all. Additionally, Tyson has been known to engage in physical altercations during the height of his career.
In a surprising turn of events, Mike Tyson was rumored to have a dispute with Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes. Tyson’s bodyguard, Rudy Gonzalez, claimed that the former champion knocked out Snipes in a bathroom altercation. Gonzalez explained the clash in his memoir, “The Inner Ring.” The incident allegedly stemmed from Tyson’s then-girlfriend, Hope.
According to Rudy Gonzalez, Hope visited her friend, Wesley Snipes, which sparked an argument involving Tyson’s entourage. Upon learning about the alleged relationship between the Hollywood actor and Hope, Tyson and Gonzalez went to the location. Witnessing his girlfriend accompanying Snipes, Mike Tyson invited the actor into the bathroom.
Gonzalez wrote, “After he went in, I opened the door to the bathroom. Wesley Snipes was sitting with his back against the far wall, head tilted to one side, unconscious.” According to the bodyguard’s account, Tyson delivered a knockout blow to Wesley Snipes. Tyson possessed a devastating punching power that could easily incapacitate trained athletes. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Snipes ended up unconscious after a blow from Tyson.
The alternate version of the Mike Tyson and Wesley Snipes altercation
The former heavyweight champion had a tumultuous life outside of boxing. In his book, “Undisputed Truth,” Tyson wrote about his confrontation with Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes. However, Tyson’s version of events appears to contradict the bodyguard’s account. According to Rudy Gonzalez, Tyson knocked out Snipes in the bathroom after witnessing him with his ex-girlfriend, Hope.
However, Mike Tyson’s account seems to tell a completely different story. The former heavyweight champion wrote, “I planned to meet Hope at RnB. I sat next to her and asked her how school was when we saw Wesley Snipes walk in. I apologized and walked over to him. Wesley looked up, saw me, and got scared.” Tyson and Snipes are said to have erupted in laughter at the sight of the frightened actor.
This is a rather unexpected encounter between the former world heavyweight champion and a Hollywood actor. There are two different versions of the story. Mike Tyson and his bodyguard, Rudy Gonzalez, have recounted alternate versions of the incident in their memoirs. Due to the conflicting narratives, the truth may never be known. It is possible that Gonzalez fabricated the incident to boost book sales for his autobiography.
